FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Inviting someone into your home or personal space can feel like a big step, so it's only natural that you will have lots of questions about how the service works. I have created this list of FAQs to help create clarity, so we can work together comfortably and positively.

I want you to feel completely comfortable with OXDO's service, so please do contact me if there is anything else you would like to know (there is no such thing as a silly question here!)

How do we get started?

Before any booking is confirmed, I offer an approximate 20-minute consultation, free of charge. This can take place by telephone, video call, or in person (where appropriate) and is simply a chance for us to talk things through, ask questions, and see whether working together feels like the right fit for you.

Is there a minimum/maximum session time?

Decluttering and organising sessions are usually booked in 3-hour sessions, unless otherwise agreed.

A full day of decluttering and organising is usually 6 hours and consists of two 3-hour sessions with a comfort break in between.

I understand that everyone’s circumstances are different, and I’m always happy to discuss flexibility where possible. Some people can work a 10-hour day, some can only manage a few hours. This is your session, so let's talk through what works for you.

How much will it cost?

Please have a look at my pricing page to give you a rough guide. I like to be completely transparent about my pricing, and am always happy to discuss what is achievable within your budget.

What will we do in a session?

In our consultation call, we will discuss the area(s) of concern and what you want to achieve. That way, we can start the session with a clear plan of what needs to be done. Things do change, but more often than not, we can crack on with decluttering, understanding what you have. sorting, and finding a workable way to organise your space.

I'm not physically able to move items. Will you help me?

Absolutely! I'm here to do what you need me to do. That might be keeping you on track while you sort through items, or it might be getting boxes out to help you look at items that I show you. We will work together in the best way that works for you.

Where items are particularly heavy, or stored in unsafe or awkward places (I do love a loft!), we will plan how best to work this. Usually, this involves decanting items into smaller containers before moving them or, occasionally, bringing in a third party to help make the space safe before we start.  A big box of books might be impossible to lift, for example, but a few bags of books make much lighter work.

What happens if I get upset?

You know what? You're human, and so am I. Your home is a deeply personal space, your belongings can invoke a million memories, and I have complete respect for your feelings. If we need to pause and take a breath, that's fine. If you need me to pop out for a few minutes while you gather your thoughts or phone a friend, that's fine. If we need to stop one job and switch to something else to make the best of your session, that's fine too. If you just need a good cry and a cuppa before we carry on, I'll put the kettle on.

I do hug, but I will always ask first.

Do I need to book lots of sessions?

The short answer is, it depends. It depends on how much clutter we need to work through, how big your house is, how many rooms need work, and how much time you want to spend on it. Of course, budget is also a factor.

For example, many people will work with me for one room and take their learnings from that to then work on another by themselves. Others do one space, then come back to me to help on another the following month.

Do you take photos or videos?

Unless specifically asked not to, I will always take a couple of before and after photos or perhaps a short video. These are primarily for my records, and I'm happy to share them with you. If you are happy to give your permission, I do share some anonymous images on my website and/or social media channels. I will never do this without express written permission, I will blur out any identifiers, and you will always be able to see the images before they are shared publicly.

What on earth do I do with my wardrobe?

Clothes are a funny one. There are a lot of feelings around them, and they are very personal. I can help you sort what you like and don't like, what fits and what doesn't. I can also help you work out what should go where when you are ready to let it go. Could you sell it? Will a charity shop, or a local good cause, want it? Is it ready for the recycling bin? Once we have your "edit", we can work through manageable systems and storage solutions that will make your life a breeze!

If you're interested in taking a closer look at what clothes work for you, I can recommend a service to analyse your best colours, and what type of clothes and accessories best suit your body shape. From personal experience, this can really help to "edit" your wardrobe and reduce excess buying, as well as help you feel confident in your own clothing.

What will the neighbours say?

I would love nothing more than for your neighbours and loved ones to see what a great job you've done! I also appreciate that asking for help can be hard. I have branding on my vehicles, but I use removable magnetic signs so I can be discreet if needed. If you would prefer me to remove any branding before I come to your home, please just let me know. For the same reason, I do not wear a branded uniform when working in your home.

Will you clean my house?

Cleaning is not my area of expertise, and I would always advise bringing in a professional cleaning service if that's what you need. However, I do carry basic cleaning supplies and, if needed, will always wipe surfaces down before we start the organising part of our session.

Will you take my rubbish & recycling away?

I do not have a commercial waste licence, so I cannot take rubbish away with me. I can help you load your own vehicle, book a skip, or find a licensed professional to assist with waste removal.

Can you help me sell my stuff?

No, due to time and space constraints, this is not a service I currently offer. I can suggest what sites and services you might want to look at if you want to sell your unwanted items, though. I am an experienced Vinted and Facebook marketplace seller, for example, so I can give you lots of handy hints and tips as we go along.

Are you insured?

Yes, I hold Professional Indemnity, Public Liability and Medical Malpractice insurance provided by Westminster Insurance. I hold a basic DBS certificate. I am also registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and comply with UK data protection requirements.

Are you a member of a professional body?

Yes, I am a verified member of APDO, The Association of Professional Declutterers & Organisers. I work in line with the APDO Code of Ethics, which promotes professionalism, integrity, and respect.

Do I need to tidy up before you arrive?

Please don't! I don't live in your house, so it's really helpful for me to see the space we are working on exactly as it is on a normal (non-visitor!) day. It gives me a better idea of how the space is used and what we can do to improve it.

Do I need to feed you?

It's surprising how worried clients get about this one. Easy answer - no! There are no expectations here. I also have some mild food allergies, which make me a bit of a nightmare to cater for. I'll bring snacks if we're doing a longer session.

Do you offer any other services?

Yes! Lots of additional services can be arranged at extra cost, such as:

  • Follow-up accountability calls

  • Charity shop drops

  • Sourcing storage solutions

  • Assisting with building/dismantling furniture
